As
we follow the path of seeking physical beauty, let's
reflect on the meaning and importance of balance
in our lives. True, lasting beauty comes from knowing
how best to take care of ourselves along with accepting
and appreciating our personal life journey—however it
may unfold. Listening to the needs of our skin and
body is just as important as
following the desires of our mind and emotions. The
Mary Thé definition of Beauty is to create
harmony between what you see on the outside and how
you feel
on the inside.
My commitment is to offer you the best
possible care, while maintaining integrity with my
own values and
principles. As an aesthetician, my goal is to inspire
clients to appreciate what they have and to respect
the body as a whole. Along with our unique approach
to preserving and enhancing beauty, Mary Thé Skin
Care provides cutting-edge skin care products and treatments
that are both safe and effective.
Cherish Yourself
The days are growing longer. Spring brings renewal, inspiring us to seek new directions and ways to improve our lives. While watching a 60 Minutes segment in February, The Pursuit of Happiness, I learned that we Americans—despite our overall prosperity— rank only #23 in the world for feeling happy. Spring is the perfect time to reevaluate our own happiness habits and make some changes. Harvard psychology professor and happiness expert Tal Ben-Shahar offers a few, easy-to-follow recommendations:
- Do what you love to do.
- Follow what you believe in.
- Simplify your life.
- Exercise regularly.
- Write a daily gratitude log.
Ben-Shahar and his family keep personal gratitude logs that they share with each other on a daily basis. Try this for yourself and let me know the results next time you come in.
Many of us also struggle to find happiness and success in our work lives. As one of our clients, Fortune 500 leadership coach and author Peggy Klaus, recently told me, "In the business world we are constantly being judged by everything we do and don't do." Peggy, who wrote the books BRAG! and The Hard Truth About Soft Skills, says that as we become more successful, expectations and judgments continue to follow us all the way to the top of the ladder.
Pressure from expectations in both our personal lives and our careers leads many of us to feel unhappy with not only how we perform, but how we look. Increasing dissatisfaction with our appearance has lead to increasing profitability for the multibillion-dollar beauty industry.
We have become desperately hungry to try almost any treatment or product that promises eternal youth. We expect results to come at the speed of broadband Internet access. Unfortunately, there are no magical solutions and some of the promises can be downright dangerous to our skin and our overall health.
Our role at Mary Thé is to provide proper guidance on evaluating the available products and treatments in terms of meeting personal goals and unique skincare needs. We encourage clients to have more compassion for themselves and to cherish their skin. Taking care of our skin properly can be expensive. For each and every type of issue, there's a specialized cream or treatment. That's why it's important to have someone you can trust to help you make the best choices.
I can't emphasize enough that each person must become the conductor in their personal beauty and well-being orchestra. Find the best professionals to hire as your musicians, but never give up your baton—no one can ever care as much about you as you can yourself!
